Thoughts on MLB using Instant Replay

Just read an article on ESPN.com stating that "Replay is coming," to Major League Baseball soon. In general I don't want to see instant replay in baseball. Yes, sometime the umps get the call wrong and it might even cost a teams a game here or there but in general I bet they get 99 percent of the calls right. I remember when instant replay came to the NFL for the first time and it really slowed things down. Granted it's come along way in football and is tolerable now with coaches only getting a couple of challenges a game but the bottom line is there is no need for regularly using replay in baseball. The thing is one or two bad calls over 162 regular season games really aren't going to make that big of a deal in the long run for baseball. Football's regular season on the other hand is made is made up of 16 games so a single bad call can have a much greater effect on the standings. The one exception I would make is that replay would be good to have in the baseball playoffs. Now with the way things are set up with the Wild Card being added, the first series in particular is a best of 5 and one bad call definitely makes a big deal in a short series like that. I looked to see if the poll on ESPN gave an option for just having replay in the post season but surprisingly it's not an option. If it's an all or nothing deal I say keep replay out of Baseball. Any avid fan can tell you that the ump is usually right on anyway plus the great thing about baseball is that it's very much like life. Sometimes life isn't always fair and that's ok. Sure the best teams usually come out on top but I'm glad that there is the human (and imperfect) element to the game. Otherwise why games could be won on paper and we all know that's not true...just ask the Detroit Tigers.
