Making Memories at Mall of America

Last weekend my wife and I took my 10 year old brother, who also happens to be my godson, to the Mall of America to celebrate his recent birthday. It was his first time visiting this Minnesota landmark and it was pretty neat to see the look on his face when we walked in. Of course he wasn’t interested in shopping so we spent most of our time in the park (formerly known as Camp Snoopy) going on rides and having a good time.

The first ride we went on was one of those water log rides and it actually stopped as it was heading up the final hill. All we heard is that they were experiencing a delay and after a couple minutes the ride continued. My brother’s favorite rides were the two rollercoasters that we went on. It was his first time on a rollercoaster and he loved it. After the first one he said, “It’s just like on TV when the camera shows the view of someone moving really fast.” The second one had an added twist to it. And by twist I mean that it was basically a tilt-awhirl on a rollercoaster track. Standing in line for it, he told me felt a little queasy in his stomach. I told him that it was probably just nerves and he agreed that he was nervous. Of course once the ride started he loved it and all was well with his stomach (mine on the other hand kept spinning even after we got off the ride).

Besides the rides we also visited the underwater exhibit that is in the mall. It wasn’t nearly as big as the aquarium we went to previously in Chicago, but we all agreed that it was very nicely laid out. The highlight was seeing an octopus and getting to touch some small sharks and rays. After our busy day we had dinner in the Rainforest CafĂ© which actually has periodic thunderstorms complete with lighting and thunder, fog, and even rain in select areas. On the way out we stopped at Lego Land which has huge life size animals made completely of Lego bricks. All in all it was a fun day and I think we made a few memories.
